How does a Generation X, Y, Z Survive??????

May 24, 2008 / by robwblog

It's the economy stupid? How about there are no good jobs that pay enough money for anyone to survive, pay for 5.00 gallon gasoline, mortgage, and kids nitwit.

There are no easy answers for those who are in their twenties and thirties, and looking to make ends meet. I would say get a job that you truly love, but our chance of being Tiger Woods is pretty bleak. As an ordinary 28 year old, with a BA degree from a good college, there is a better chance of getting an un-paid internship pulling out Tiger's weeds. Indeed, and you can drop off a million resume's to various companies, email them, CAREERBULD them, and so on and so forth, but unless you have a Harvard BA, MA, JD, MBA backround, you're in the same pile with all the other hopeless shlubs. (Or as John Kerry refers to, those in the US ARMY) Competition is extremely fierce in the 21st century, and you have to completely stand out from the rest to be able to even get called in for the killer interview. However, if you're not prepared to lie through your teeth, then you might as well tell the company Thanks, but no thanks.

Also, there is the opportunity for an internship, or as I so proudly coin it, an Unpaid Slaveternship. True, the internships do give you practical experience, however, if you're a math man, the odds of you landing a job off that internship are slim to none, UNLESS, you perform everything perfectly, with ease, arrive exactly on time each day at 830, and provide everything to every worker without any flaws at all, and pretty much run the company for them. So there, its not that tough.

Indeed, you can blame the generation's issues on a number of things though. For instance, the generation of twenty year olds does not want to ask the "contacts" for jobs, and hit the networking circle. Though, those are the people that tend to lead folks in the right areas. I would say that because of personal pride, and the fact that the parents provide us with a money for college, car, clothes shelter, food, and a great deal more, that the person should be able to at least be able to handle two things: land a job on their own and find their own woman (or man).

Also, you can blame it on the change in the economic situation in the world, where a great deal of the jobs are outsourced to other countries such as India, and other parts of the world. Also, there are a lot more people out there looking for jobs in the world today, with college degrees, than before, because anyone who has a pulse can earn one. (As long as you have a ton of cash from your folks to pay for it) So then it comes down to lineage, what economic status your parents are that determines your outlook. That's not too bad, right???

Yep folks, the generation has been dealt a rough, almost impossible deck of cards. We also suffer from all the issues that the huge companies profit on, such as attention defecit issues because of the video games, lack of hearing because of the righteous concerts, and lack of motivation to do anything because of the RX anxiety drugs.

Well, there you have it for now. Still trying to figure out how to get the job (and girl) of my dreams. One that allows me to work 9-5, full benefits, $70, 000 a year salary, no toxic stress, and something I really enjoy doing. That really that tough??

I think I'll go back to my internship pulling out Tiger Woods weeds.
